Week 12 – Wrap up; social networks and catch up

Week 12 – it is here, hip hip horay. The last week of the learning lessons in the Learning 2.0 program has arrived. It has been a wonderful journey and I hope that there will be more to come.

I would like to say a BIG BIG BIG thank-you for the opportunity of learning so much in a small time frame. I has been a hard slog of the whip to find the time to complete, but it is here.

I will be adding more so stay tuned and thankyou again. It's been a pleasure.

I will miss trying to find the spare time for you.

Week 11 – Online applications and tools

The library system I am with has just started to use the on-line application and as to date I have not had an application yet! Being in a small town may have some impact on how many I would get compared to other large regional centres.

The Google Docs was fun as I didn't know that is was avaliable. (Guess that's why I am enjoying this course so much). Our library is starting to set up a staff intranet so all our docs will be avaliable and also up-to-date. I can see how this would be helpful for libraries who don't have this feature.

Mashup

Mashup would be a wonderful asset to the local history groups every-where. Just think how wonderful it would if you are searching your family history and you go to the local library of your ancestors home town and to hear a story from or about your ancestors. It would just bring a chill down your spine. I know how excited I get when I find a long lost grave from late 1800's, or information from the old newspapers.

Google Maps

Just playing with Google Maps and I had found this hard, I think just because of time restrictions and only having dial up Internet takes a lot longer to surf the net and when there is a lot of information on the web page it takes longer.

Looking at the maps of the capital cities is much clearer than looking at the map of my home town of Dunedoo. Maybe one day it will become clearer.

Podcast in the library

This would be a great way of preserving the local history even in a small rural town where funding and time is limited.

Imagine listening to local history about the town.

Information centres
Training podcasts
Library tours
Story-time
Book clubs

The list is endless.

I have never left Australia, so my map was easy. I didn't find a map just for Australia, but I will keep looking. Here is a map I created with just Australia in yellow.

Gregory North is Fully Sick Mate!

I hadthe pleasure seeing Gregory North in the flesh at the Dunedoo Bush Poetry Festival in March 2008. He is very funny and his comedy suits every-one.
